The video shotlister utility was an internal
project for Reel Image to ease the process of logging the
large number of source video tapes into the library database.
The process requires a producer to spool through each video
tape of a filming trip, and log each scene into the database.
The
digital betacam tape decks are controlled via a RS-422
interface and an on-screen control panel. The video output
with time-code is displayed in a wide-screen video window
on the same computer screen.
The third window is an interface to the back-end database
and this allows records to be easily added, edited and searched.
Tying it all together is a hook into the thumbwheel on a
multimedia keyboard, effectively providing a 'jog-shuttle'
interface to the tape deck.
